OVERVIEW:  The Action Pistol League matches include four stages of fire that involve drawing and shooting a pistol while moving and engaging multiple targets.  The stages at each league meeting are similar to USPSA/IPSC, NRA Action Pistol and IDPA matches; however, league matches are not officially sanctioned by any of these organizations.  Each stage typically requires eight to 24 rounds for each course with a total round count for the match of less than 100 rounds.  Matches usually take two hours or less to complete.  An explanation for each course of fire will be provided prior to its being shot. The following video clip provides an good review of a typical match:

 https://youtu.be/f6VD3blwtkg

PREREQUISITE: If you have never shot a competition before, please inform one of our organizers before you shoot this match.  We ask this because we like to balance our squads to help the match move faster.  Wake County Range Card required.  Must notify match director of attendance (see "Pricing and Registration" below).

GEAR REQUIRED: Action Pistol League is a four stage match requiring less than 100 rounds, a pistol and holster along five magazines (if you don't have five magazines, we'll have someone reload for you while you are shooting).  SHERPA holsters or any similar holsters that use the trigger finger to release the pistol are not permitted. Ear and eye protection mandatory even if you are just observing. Wear appropriate attire, including covered shoes and no loose fitting clothing that could allow an ejected round to lodge between the skin and clothing.  Water and snacks are recommended, however NO FOOD OR DRINK IS PERMITTED INSIDE THE FIRING RANGE.

When not shooting, keep unloaded firearm in holster at all times.  This is a Cold Range.  Only touch firearm when you are in the shooting box and instructed to “Make Ready”.

OVERVIEW: The stages from last Sunday's USPSA match at The Range remain set-up allowing us a practice session on this evening.

This is a good opportunity to run a few USPSA stages to work on some fundamentals such as movement, stage strategy and other skills relevant to the USPSA shooter.  This session also provides an opportunity for our "new to USPSA" shooters to experience a few stages without being an actual match.

ZSA shooters, this session will benefit you as well.

PREREQUISITE: If you have never shot a competition before, please inform one of our organizers upon your arrival at this practice session.  We ask this because we like to balance our squads to help the match move faster.

GEAR REQUIRED: Bring 150-200 rounds, a pistol and holster along five magazines (if you don't have five magazines, we'll have someone reload for you while you are shooting). SHERPA holsters or any similar holsters that use the trigger finger to release the pistol are not permitted. Ear and eye protection mandatory even if you are just observing. OVERVIEW:  ZSA matches are brought to us by the Zombie Shooters Association of America (www.zombieshootersassociation.com) and incorporate the best of USPSA and IDPA competitive shooting.  ZSA matches are geared towards the new shooter as a gateway to safe, competitive, firearms fun.  Seasoned shooters will also find many challenges to improve their game.  These matches are designed to be safe while being incredibly fun!

A typical ZSA pistol match is comprised of six stages whereby the competitor engages silhouette targets, some of which are designated as "Zombies" and others "Infected".  Engaging a Zombie requires one head shot, however a miss equates to a 5 second penalty.  An Infected requires three shots on target, two of which must be in the "Good" zone.  A miss on an infected is a 10 second penalty and Creates a Walker.  Some stages will have "time saver" bonus shots which are usually a 3 second bonus but watch out and don't Wreck a Meal because each shot on these targets is a 10 second penalty.  Speed is important in ZSA matches, but slow down just a notch to improve your score as you are rewarded for accuracy.  Please view the following videos to learn more:

PREREQUISITE:  If you have never shot a competition before, please inform one of our organizers before you shoot this match.  We ask this because we like to balance our squads to help the match move faster.

GEAR REQUIRED: ZSA Pistol @The Range is typically six stages with each stage comprised of 20-30 rounds.   Bring about 200 rounds, a pistol and holster along five magazines (if you don't have five magazines, we'll have someone reload for you while you are shooting).  If you don't have a holster, please bring your pistol in a gun bag and you will shoot from the low ready. Ear and eye protection mandatory even if you are just observing. Wear appropriate attire, including covered shoes and no loose fitting clothing that could allow an ejected round to lodge between the skin and clothing.  Water and snacks for refreshment are recommended, but can often be acquired onsite for nominal consideration.

When not shooting, keep unloaded firearm in holster at all times.  This is a Cold Range.  Only touch firearm when you are in the shooting box and instructed to “Make Ready”.

PRICING and REGISTRATION: Bring $25 in cash, as payment is made upon arrival (no credit cards accepted). In addition to your RSVP here at SFE Shooters, to ensure your spot, please RSVP at the PractiScore link that will be posted in the "Comments" section below about a week prior to the match.  We will attempt to squad everyone together.

OVERVIEW:  This weekly session is for our regular match shooters only.  Due to the size of the facility, attendance is limited to 5 shooters.  We will be shooting in Bay 2, allowing for movement and to practice various skills that will make us better match shooters.  Feel free to suggest drills in the "Comments" section below.  This will be "organized practice" and we'll run drills as a squad under conditions similar to a match, including timer and range commands.  We will attempt to reserve Bay 2 at 10am the day of the session (Range policy).  Please understand that it won't always be available, which is another reason we are scheduling this event 4x a month.

PREREQUISITE: Match Shooters Only.

GEAR REQUIRED: This is a pistol only event.  Match shooters, you know what to bring.  Round counts will vary, but I'm guessing typically about 100 rounds.  One hour isn't a lot of time with 5 total shooters, so let's run efficiently to get the most out of these sessions.  Please arrive on time!  Ear and eye protection mandatory even if you are just observing. Wear appropriate attire, including covered shoes and no loose fitting clothing that could allow an ejected round to lodge between the skin and clothing.

When not shooting, keep unloaded firearms in holster/case at all times.  This is a Cold Range.  Only touch firearm when you are in the shooting position and instructed to “Make Ready”.

PRICING and REGISTRATION: The cost to rent Bay 2 is $5 per shooter, PLUS the standard Personal Defense charge based upon your membership level.  We will also have to use their targets at $2 each.  The cost to participate in this practice session is dependent upon your Personal Defense membership level and the fee breakdown follows:

Gold or Family Memberships: $5 to practice.

Associate Members: $10 + $5 = $15 to practice.

Non-Members: $20 +$5 = $25 to practice.

Here's the Link to Personal Defense for more information on the range and membership information:

IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST VISIT to Personal Defense, please arrive early and take the written test.  You can also take the test and print it at the link above.  This way you can join us promptly at 6pm.

OVERVIEW:   Steel Challenge is a speed shooting competition consisting of eight standardized stages whereby the competitor engages five steel plates in each stage.  The steel plates range in size from 10" and 12" round plates to 18 x 24" square plates placed at varying distances.  Each stage is shot five times and competitors are scored based upon the time it takes to complete each stage.  The match winner is the individual with the lowest cumulative time.

Because shooters are allocated up to 30 seconds to engage five steel plates, Steel Challenge is often referred to as an entry point into shooting sports.  Furthermore, because the stages are standardized, a shooter can easily compare his or her results from match-to-match, and even stage-to-stage, to measure improvement.

For the more experienced shooter, Steel Challenge is about going fast and shooting accurately.  Top shooters are able to draw from their holster, hitting the first steel plate in under a second, with sub three second times for all five plates.

Although a timed event, don't let this discourage you. Having 30 seconds to engage 5 steel targets is an eternity. Nor should the term “competition” be of any concern, because it's your opportunity to establish a personal baseline, allowing you to begin to measure your individual improvement. Steel Challenge is also a lot more fun than plinking away at cardboard on a range. See the link that follows for a short video “A Beginners Guide to Steel Challenge”: https://www.youtube.c...

PREREQUISITE: If you have never shot a competition before, please inform one of our organizers before you shoot this match.  We ask this because we like to balance our squads to help the match move faster.

GEAR REQUIRED: Steel Challenge @The Range is five stages as opposed to eight, requiring a minimum of 125 rounds.  You will miss, so bring about 200 rounds, a pistol and holster along five magazines (if you don't have five magazines, we'll have someone reload for you while you are shooting).

PRICING and REGISTRATION: Bring $20 in cash, as payment is made upon arrival (no credit cards accepted). In addition to your RSVP here at SFE Shooters, to ensure your spot, please RSVP at the PractiScore link that will be posted in the "Comments" section below about a week prior to the match.  We will attempt to squad everyone together.

IF YOU RSVP FOR A SFE SHOOTERS EVENT THAT REQUIRES PAYMENT AND YOU DON'T SHOW UP OR FAIL TO CANCEL YOUR RSVP IN ADVANCE, YOU ARE LEAVING A SPOT UNFILLED AS WAITLIST MEMBERS WILL NOT BE OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND. FURTHERMORE, IF YOU CANCEL AT THE LAST MINUTE (which we understand does occasionally happen), WE MAY AGAIN BE LEFT WITH UNFILLED SPOTS OR WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR RANGE TIME THAT GOES UNUSED.  IF YOU REGISTER ON PRACTISCORE AND CANNOT ATTEND PLEASE ADVISE AN ORGANIZER BEFORE THE EVENT.

OTHER INFORMATION: The Steel Challenge typical ends around 3:30 (so paint steel quickly between rounds and be ready for the next course of fire by having loaded magazines ready). Optional group early dinner follows (pay own way).

Event Details

OVERVIEW:  ZSA matches are brought to us by the Zombie Shooters Association of America (www.zombieshootersassociation.com) and incorporate the best of USPSA and IDPA competitive shooting.  ZSA matches are geared towards the new shooter as a gateway to safe, competitive, firearms fun.  Seasoned shooters will also find many challenges to improve their game.  These matches are designed to be safe while being incredibly fun!

A typical ZSA pistol match is comprised of five-six stages with one classifier whereby the competitor engages silhouette targets, some of which are designated as "Zombies" and others "Infected". Please view the following videos to learn more:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Gq8z--fqgM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=hbK2OH_1-8E

We encourage shooters to get their classifiers in.  Classifiers are a great benchmark to test your current shooting ability as well as provide a motivation to move up to the next level of "classification".

Onsite registration window opens at 10am.  Shooting to begin promptly at 11am.

PREREQUISITE:  If you have never shot a competition before, please inform one of our organizers before you shoot this match.  We ask this because we like to balance our squads to help the match move faster.

GEAR REQUIRED: The Devil Dog ZSA Pistol @Triad Shooting is typically six stages with each stage comprised of 20-30 rounds.

PRICING and REGISTRATION: Bring $25 in cash (active military $20), as payment is made upon arrival (no credit cards accepted). In addition to your RSVP here at SFE Shooters, to ensure your spot, please RSVP at the PractiScore link that will be posted in the "Comments" section below about a week prior to the match.  We will attempt to squad everyone together.

SFE Shooters Association, Inc. (USPSA Club NC35) hosts the Devil Dog USPSA @The Range on the fourth Sunday of the month.

Hosting a match is a lot of work, including setting up the stages in advance (Saturday afternoon).  Our matches have six stages, including one classifier.  Having a few volunteers to help with set-up is always appreciated.  However, we don't want to burn our members out, so please pace yourself, as we know SFE Shooters hosts a lot of events every month.

This is an opportunity to start to learn basic stage design.  On Saturday afternoon, we'll stage all the set up gear in respective bays, place walls, steel and target stands.  On Sunday morning, the remaining activities will be stapling targets and doing a walk though to confirm safety, shooting angles, degree of difficulty, and to reconfirm target counts.

Please come out and lend a hand if you are available.  We do this out of a passion for shooting.  Hope to see you Saturday afternoon.

OVERVIEW:  SFE Shooters is a USPSA club (NC35) and we run this match.

United States Practical Shooting Association ("USPSA") is the governing body of practical shooting in the United States.  With over 25,000 active members and over 400 affiliated clubs, USPSA is the largest competitive pistol shooting organization in the U.S.  To learn more about USPSA, please visit the following link:

https://www.uspsa.org/

This event is rapid, on-the-move shooting and often referred to as "Run and Gun" or a "Track Meet".  There is something incredibly exhilarating when running with a gun and shooting targets as they appear, whether cardboard or steel.  The following link provides an introduction to USPSA shooting:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXbdbHReqQ8

PREREQUISITE: If you have never shot a competition before, we request that you shoot at least one Zombie Shooters Association pistol match before shooting your first USPSA match.

GEAR REQUIRED: Devil Dog USPSA @The Range is a six stage match, requiring just under 200 rounds. Bring your pistol and holster along with at least three magazines.

PRICING and REGISTRATION: USPSA members: $20, Non-USPSA members: $25. Bring cash, as payment is made upon arrival (no credit cards accepted).

OTHER INFORMATION: USPSA typical ends around 4pm (so paste targets quickly between rounds and be ready for the next course of fire by having loaded magazines ready). Optional group early dinner follows (pay own way).

North Raleighites,

Come out and shoot with us at TSA. Have fun, swap guns, play games (ex. tic-tac-toe, shout out to Raj for the idea). Practice drills or rent a gun you wanted to try.

There is no predefined program. However we might throw in some challenging shots to spice things up. You can make it as difficult or easy as you like.

• This is NOT a match/class/or an organized event, other than `let's go shoot together`.

• Great opportunity to bring your toys, try shooting what other people own.

• No ports reserved, there might be wait time, and no guarantee that you and your guest(s) will get adjacent lanes.

TSA is an indoor shooting range and has certain limitations to what you can and cannot do. Familiarize yourself with Range Rules.

In order to shoot at TSA you need to:

• Sign a waiver. Online processing is available here (click on the red tab in the bottom-right corner)

• Watch safety video. Approximately 30 minutes

• Pay one time fee for a range card (valid for one year). You will NOT be allowed to the firing lane without the range card

If you are shooting for the first time please arrive early to complete all prerequisites. Ask about range card at reception. The staff is very friendly and will assist you through the process.

Range fees (non-members):

$20 per hour per lane.

Lanes can be shared with multiple shooters for an extra fee

Event Details
